time don reach
I have expressed my disappointment in the past about not being able to watch them live. But this weekend I hope to correct for my past misfortunes by traveling into the neighboring state to see them, though this will come at the cost of missing Kokolo live in the burgh. I guess you gotta give up something to gain something?In other news, my research anxieties seem to be under control, maybe because it's spring time or because I get to watch Antibalas finally, or because after 1.5 weeks of working on the same problem, perseverance and diligence paid off. The grand finale is approaching. Exciting times ahead.

Royalty = poo
"The heyday of advertising-free Internet radio might be coming to an end. Simson says small operators who play music and don't try to sell ads "will have a hard time paying the rate" -- a change about which he's not shedding tears." Washington Post
I understand that artists deserve to get their money, but what about the alternative/underground, mom and pop internet radio stations which survive off meager donations from their listeners anyway? This is where the giant radio stations will eat up the fledgling, commercial-free, listener supported stations. I'm not sure how I would manage without somafm.

vernal rambling
We were down 4-1 at the half but came back to win 8-5. It's all about the aggression. You intimidate and sooner or later the opposition will crack under pressure. It's a bit frustrating that they choose to start the indoor season the day after equinox, but I'll take whatever I can get. The week has been horrid so far as each day bleeds into the next, what with the thesis to finish and all. I need to have results to talk about first. That's the harder part because there is more uncertainty involved. On the bright side, thirty minutes of an intense workout and I am feeling new. And spring is here. I'm hungry.

late night distractions
Grooving to their beat right now. Rare earth remix and feel come recommended. Working late into the night. Two hours ago my mind was racing in every which direction. Music, on occasion, helps me focus. This is definitely one of those nights.I had my last class today. I will know soon if it is to be my last class ever. Either way, exciting times lie ahead. But first I have a thesis to write. Blau!

obligatory shots
Bird's eye view of the Carnegie Mellon campus area. Most of the greenery you see is either Schenley park or Frick park, two of Pittsburgh's well known outdoor attractions. My apartment is on the other end of Schenley park (top right of image). It's not uncommon to see deer in the wooded area surrounding my apartment. The other day I saw one run into someone's backyard.
And this is where I have spent many a day (and night) slaving - Hammerschlag Hall ..home to many distinguished programs and also my favorite - the green roof project. My office is directly under the roof.

Jolie writes on Darfur
"It has become clear to me that there will be no enduring peace without justice. History shows that there will be another Darfur, another exodus, in a vicious cycle of bloodshed and retribution. But an international court finally exists. It will be as strong as the support we give it. This might be the moment we stop the cycle of violence and end our tolerance for crimes against humanity." Washington Post
