The YCT (Young Conservatives of Texas) have organized an "Immigrant Hunt"
for this Wednesday, March 2nd on the West Mall on campus-- they have
reserved the space from 11:00am-1:00pm.
They recently organized a similar event at the University of North Texas

This time around they plan to wear color-coded anti-immigrant shirts and
"hunt for immigrants" who will be YCT-ers dressed in brown for Latina/os,
yellow for Asians, etc. and offer rewards.
A counter-demonstration is planned by a multi-ethnic coalition of student organizations in response at the same time. Folks are asking for a huge turnout, and that people wear black shirts and white bandanas if possible, and bring signs and chants-- some folks will be linking hands in silent protest, others will be vocal and hold signs and pass out flyers outlining a
progressive position on immigration.

is this the same baba that would chase a different 'womanbeing' every other day? it has been too long my friend. Your a flipping saint or atleast so it appears. Very soon we shall be jammin over some pepe soup and star beer. Jesse, apparently star beer is available in H-town. Vamos La?
Oh and the "hunt for illegal immigrants" was completely futile. Five or so YCT members versus 100 odd silent protesters.I stood there for a good 10 minutes before the craving for a burrito got the better of me. The rest is history. Hari Om!

Was it an embarassment for them?
It's interesting how this economny works. Illegal immigrants play a part of the whole system.
A friend of a friend in Vermont said someone had mentioned that all immigrants should go home. Imagine what would happen their lives. There would be no quickie shops open, no cabs in NY, no one to pick up their trash, or process their hamburger meat. Roads and houses would not be built, fruits and vegetables left unharvested, papers left unfiled. There would also be a shortage of pediatritions and surgeons, the stock market probably couldn't run, and universities would lose a good percentage of their professors.
But I would not say only Americans behave in this way. Ignorant, anti-immigration movements happen all around the world. In fact, many wars and riots are fueled by unharmonious native and migrant groups.

This is way too broad a discussion to start analyzing. There is a difference between targetting just immigrants and targetting illegal immigrants. One of the guys I spoke to said "do you know how many illegal immigrants die in the desert out of hunger and starvation every year? This is what we are working to stop"
What obviously roused the 100 odd protesters to go out there was this theme of "hunting illegal immigrants" which is below the belt. If they had maybe come out simply to facilitate dialogue and voice their opinion and cause it might have worked. I agree with Jesse though, giving them attention is playing to their tunes, stooping to their level. But the mass silent protest certianly ensured that they won't return to these neck of the woods anytime soon. My favorite protester was this lady who sat across their table and played the flute all afternoon. She was cute too.

the best way to stop illegal immigration is to improve the economic situation of the source country. now most immigration to the US is for this reason rather, than wars or persecution. perhaps Clinton looked to improve Mexico's economy with NAFTA.

not to say anything for central american immigrants, who are making up a larger proportion of the illegal immigrants each year...
