realignment of the stars in my favor

Congratulations! I'm delighted to tell you there is a letter in the mail formally offering you admission to our graduate program.

We are impressed with your outstanding record, and we would like to have the opportunity to convince you that Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a truly great place to work, and Pittsburgh a surprisingly nice place to live.

I did my little victory dance when I found out. Am not too sure about the Pittsburgh part though. To me, Dr John Cagan epitomizes the ideal graduate advisor. When we talked over the phone a week ago, I was staggered by how overfriendly he was. Its not for anything he is nicknamed 'the Jewish Mother.' I haven't accepted their offer just yet but the opportunity to take up one of two funded research positions in their renowned interdisciplinary design program is rather tempting. Options open. Interviewing for jobs as well. I have a few weeks to make a decision. The next task at hand is to plot plans for the summer. Travel and work is the general theme. Starting today, the gears will shift and an earnest attempt will be made to refocus my energy on realizing certain dreams - possibly a DT traineeship (ideally working with kids though not limited to that) or take Jesse and Rara's advice and move to South Central America and work at an orphanage. Over a celebratory beer last night, his holiness did yield some useful advice. That's all I have thus far. Any suggestions on ANYTHING interesting to do for the summer?

Comments:
cool. I have two architects friends graduating from CMU if you'd like to find out about the joy of living in Pitsburgh.

i would suggest a traineeship in the beautiful beaches of turkey. you can have some nice hookah, shisha whatever you call it while watching the dolphins follow the ships. or go on a blue cruise for 7 days. badass my friend badass...

Congratulations on your admission, Surya! CMU would be lucky to have you :)

That's awesome that you have options. And not only that, great options. Just keep on truckin'!

PA ain't all that bad. In fact it can be surprizingly good. It's cold, but not bitter cold. Not that bad. This weekend it's back in the 40s. Pittsburgh looked really cool from the airplane. It's all waterfront.

beta your auntie has told me some stories about armed robbers in pittsburgh and i'm not losing my beta to armed robbers i don't want you to go

suyi i hurt my uncle dewd. my uncle needs some fixing. thnx uncle

Rumor has it that King Pin and co. have relocated from Delta State and Kotonu to PA. I am told the auntie circuit will convene this evening (at Planet 44 or Panchos), with the sole intention of determining whether or not it is safe for me to venture to those parts of the woods. Arun's mom is to be the "mediator" for this event.

further rumors suggest that an armed gang of mauritanian desert bandits, financed and equipped by a romanian-born russian weapons smuggler, has relocated its western hemisphere heroin-trafficking operations from the canary islands to pittsburgh, PA. word is there will be intense competition between them and the togolese run delta state kingpin for armed robberiy revenues

IMF economists are calling on the united states to adopt a laissez-tuer approach to the situation in order to eliminate inefficiencies in the hitherto underdeveloped pittsburgh-area extortion market. former fed chairman paul volcker noted that this is a welcome change from the protectionist stance of local law enforcement agencies

CONGRATULATIONS!! :)

mel's right, PA ain't texas but it ain't that bad. (ask meghna, or, well, me). pittsburgh whatevz, it's CMU, and it sounds like you have a great program and advisor to look forward to.

what to do this summer: perfect your portugues! lisbon is beautiful, brazil i'm sure is even better :)
